Biography

Kenny Rogers, born August 21, 1938 in Houston, Texas, is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. Even though most people recognize him for his success in the country music industry, Rogers boasts more than 120 hit singles across a range of genres, such as pop and rock. After joining several bands over 20 years, he finally decided to go solo in 1976. His single, “Lucille,” hit #1 on the pop charts in 12 countries and sold well over 5 million copies and thus began his successful career as a solo artist.

Two of his albums were featured on About.com as one of the 200 most influential country albums of all time. He was also voted the “Favorite Singer of All Time” in 1986 by People and USA Today readers. He has received numerous awards including ACMs, CMAs, AMAs and Grammys. He also received a lifetime achievement award in 2003 for a career spanning six decades.
