Biography

John Royce “Johnny” Mathis was born on September 30, 1935 in Gilmer, Texas. At a young age, Johnny Mathis started learning music from his father. His first song to learn was “My Blue Heaven.” Johnny started learning to play the piano and sing when he was just 8 years old. In 1955, Johnny started singing on the weekends at Ann Dee’s 440 Club and recorded his first album in 1956.

Johnny Mathis has received 4 Grammy nominations, his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and has been honored by numerous heads of states around the world. Today, Mr. Mathis lives in California and enjoys golf, cooking, and other hobbies.
